Combined sight and hearing loss

To experience both sight and hearing loss can lead to frustration, isolation, loss of confidence, problems with communication and difficulty with getting out and about.

We aim to:

• Listen to the difficulties which are caused by having problems with both eyesight and hearing – every individual has their own particular difficulties.

• Provide information about support which is available.

• Demonstrate equipment – either in our Sight Advice Centre or by home visits within South Lakeland.

• Provide training and awareness raising for those working with people with a combined sight and hearing loss.

The Sight Advice Centre has a range of equipment designed to help people with poor hearing as well as sight problems:

• Telephone amplifiers and telephones with built-in amplification

• Loud doorbells

• Vibrating and extra loud alarms

• Amplified telephone ringers

• Room loop system and personal loops for hearing aid users
